Policies

This summary results from a search of past PAVCCS Newsletters and Minutes. These policies were accepted by the Association at the designated General Meeting. It is understood that while some other policies may have been presented for ratification, their formal acceptance was not revealed in the search.

EMPLOYMENT OF STAFF

  1. A staff member of a Catholic School may make enquiries about a post in another Catholic school without informing his or her principal and without the need for consultation between the Principals of the two schools.

  2. The position of a staff member should not be prejudiced by his or her notifying the Principal of his or her intention of enquiring about teaching positions elsewhere or by asking for a reference. Staff members should be made aware of this freedom.

  3. A staff member should understand clearly that he or she is expected to give due notice (minimum of seven weeks wholly within one term) to his or her present Principal if he or she intends to resign.

  4. Principals are strongly advised to make full enquiries before any staff appointments. A Principal receiving an application from a staff member of another Catholic school should indicate to that applicant that no offer of employment will be made until contact has been made with the present Principal of the applicant.

  5. Principals should ensure that the terms of an offer of employment to any staff member employed in another Catholic school are such as to allow the employee to give due notice (minimum of seven weeks wholly within one term) to his or her present employer.

Adopted 8 October 1982 (as part of the PAVCSS Code of Ethics)

ENROLMENT OF PUPILS

  1. A Principal should not agree to accept a pupil from another Catholic school until he or she has communicated with the Principal of that school (either verbally or by a reference form for routine transfers). A similar procedure should be followed with pupils from non?Catholic schools. It is quite improper for a Principal or any member of his or her school community to try to induce a pupil to change schools.

  2. The enrolment procedures followed by each school should be clearly stated. When a Catholic school intends to make changes in its pattern of enrolment or in its fee structure that are likely to affect the enrolment of pupils in other Catholic schools, the Principal should initiate discussion with the Director of Catholic Education, or his representative, and with the heads of the school likely to be affected.
