2023 Conference: Dr Ernesto (Neto) Valiente will be Principal Presenter at the PAVCSS 2023 Conference: May 30 to June 2.

Dr Valiente, a native of El Salvador, is Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College, Massachusetts USA. His conference theme will around Christology. Dr Valiente lists Christology as one of his areas of expertise and has recently published a book on the subject. Many Principals will recall what an engaging presenter Neto was when he conducted the highly successful schools tour in 2016.

2023 Schools Tour: Professor Emeritus John Warhurst AO will conduct the 2023 schools’ tour : July 10 to July 28.  Dr Warhurst was Professor of Politics at the University of New England from 1993 to 2008. He has a PhD in Political Science from Flinders University and has taught in Warrnambool and London. He was President of the Australian Political Science Association and Chair of the Australian Republic Movement. He is a Canberra Times columnist and a regular media commentator. In 2009 Dr Warhurst was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for services to Political Science and the community. Dr Warhurst is also Chair of Concerned Catholics Canberra Goulburn and was a member of the Plenary Council. He has served on the boards/advisory boards of the Australian Catholic Social Justice council, Catholic Welfare Australia, Marist 180 (Marist Youth Care) and Caritas Australia. He was a co-author of the influential official Church report “The Light from the Southern Cross” (2020). Professor Warhurst’s two latest books are “Wrestling with the Church Hierarchy: Engaging with the Plenary Council and Beyond” (2021) and “Hard Questions Born of Love: My Journey through the Plenary” (May 2020). In 2023 Dr Warhurst offers to present to Principals and staff in Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools on the following themes: i. The Plenary Council. ii. The Church in Australia. iii. Dr Barbara Reid OP, MA, Aquinas College, PhD, Catholic University of America. Sr. Barbara Reid is Professor of New Testament Studies at Chicago Theological Union (CTU). Sr Barbara is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and has served on the CTU faculty since 1988. She was Vice President and Academic Dean from 2009 to 2018 and has been actively involved in the Association of Theological Schools, including service on their Board of Directors. She has led many of CTU's Israel Retreats and Biblical Lands Study and Travel Programs in Greece, Turkey, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, and Egypt. A former Spanish teacher, she has given presentations in México, Bolivia, Perú, Uruguay, Brazil, Guatemala, and Santo Domingo. She has also lectured in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Philippines, Thailand, and Rome.  
Sr. Barbara is one of the leading scholars in feminist interpretation of the Scriptures. She is General Editor for the Wisdom Commentary Series, a new 58-volume feminist commentary on the Bible published by Liturgical Press (see www.wisdomcommentary.org, where her Introduction to the series can be downloaded gratis).

2024 Schools Tour: Dr Carmody Grey. Confirmation is expected by the end of March 2023

2024 Schools’ Tour: It is anticipated that Dr Carmody Grey will conduct the 2024 Schools’ Tour.

Dr Grey will confirm one way or the other by the end of March this year. Many Principals would recall the wonderfully successful Schools’ Tour conducted by Dr Grey in 2019. Dr Carmody Grey is Assistant Professor of Catholic Theology at the Centre for Catholic Studies, University of Durham. Dr Grey has degrees in theology from Trinity College Oxford, King’s College Cambridge and the University of Nottingham. She has completed her doctoral studies in theology at the University of Bristol, focusing on a theological account of life and nature. Before starting her doctorate she was Head of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics at Bedales School in Hampshire, UK, as well as pursuing her ongoing interest in ecology and the life sciences through a postgraduate degree from Edinburgh. She has been involved in theological formation of priests, deacons and catechists, and is a columnist for “The Tablet”.

If Dr Grey is unavailable for 2024, the Faith and Enrichment committee will discuss alternatives at its next meeting on May 5.
